The Palmetto Man

A Science Fiction Legal Thriller

When pest-control technician Cal Howland takes a late-night call at an unmarked facility outside Charleston, South Carolina, a bite from an engineered insect alters his biology forever. Clinging to brick walls and endowed with near-indestructible endurance, Cal has no desire to be a hero—until a viral video of him defending a stranger catapults him into a global firestorm.

Eight thousand miles away in New Delhi, a defiant student movement adopts his silhouette as their rallying cry against institutional injustice. As biotech giant Vane Biosciences prepares to auction the weaponized process to the highest global bidder, Cal teams up with fearless Indian advocates and a tenacious Lowcountry legal team to expose deadly human trials in a Charleston courtroom.

Procedurally authentic and emotionally charged, The Palmetto Man is a gripping international legal thriller.

The Indelible Stamp

Geography, Survival, Human Behavior, and Progress

In The Descent of Man, Darwin says that man still bears in his bodily frame “the indelible stamp of his lowly origin.” This book goes further to say we carry that stamp also in our instincts, and geography shapes those instincts.

Drawing on physics, evolutionary biology, neuroscience, and history, Rohit Sabharwal traces how our survival instincts, the drive of all matter to stay “as is,” diverged into four human blueprints: the disciplined Tundra; the fluid, family-centered Temperate; the enduring Desert; and the agile Diaspora.

From the lobby of a Park Avenue tower to the rise of the Jewish, Parsi, Marwari, Sindhi, and Overseas Chinese diasporas, from the Nobel Prize to the independent woman—the person of two centuries, The Indelible Stamp offers a lens for understanding why people behave as they do, and, in that understanding, a path toward humility, tolerance, and happiness.
